We've been relying on urbanspoon for most of our restaurant recommendations in the Queen City and it's been paying off nicely. For lunch yesterday we gave Big Daddy's Burger Bar a shot - and we most definitely scored. Our waiter, a bald man with a goatee and a vaguely foreign accent (the only member of the wait staff who wasn't smoking hot - our luck), told us the place would fill up before we were down chowing down. This picture proves he wasn't just whistling Dixie. It was packed by locals and was clearly a community favorite.
The restaurant was one of many on a street of upscale dining options that included an Outback in amidst the local joints. It was "nice" and nice is not what Bill was expecting. The walls were decorated with picture after picture of John Lennon and the Beatles, with some comic book covers and an autographed picture of "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair which up the geek ante significantly.
Of course, ambiance is just the appetizer. What comes out of the kitchen is what matters and Big Daddy delivered. I had a burger with jack cheese, chili, and salsa on Texas Toast, perfectly cooked to a nice medium rare that they called "medium" so as not to get in trouble when I end up with ecoli or some other horrible disease down the road.
